Leishmania herreri (Kinetoplastida; Trypanosomatidae) is more closely related to Endotrypanum (Kinetoplastida; Trypanosomatidae) than to Leishmania.

چکیده
Since L. herreri was first described in 1979 [l], no further isolates have been identified and some doubts have been expressed as to the classification of this parasite. The 16 original strains of L. herrrri were isolated from sloths (Bradypus griseus and Choloepus hoffmanni) and sandflies (Lutzomyiu trupidoi, Lu. ylephiletor and Lu. shannoni) in Costa Rica. These parasites were classified with the Leishmania principally because they develop as intracellular amastigotes in vitro in primary hamster embryo tissue. They also produce transitory amastigotes ( < 48 h) at the site of inocula-

Phylogeny of Trypanosomatidae and Bodonidae (Kinetoplastida) based on 18S rRNA: evidence for paraphyly of Trypanosoma and six other genera.
Phylogenetic analysis of 18S rRNA sequences from the families Trypanosomatidae and Bodonidae (Eugelenozoa: Kinetoplastida) was conducted using a variety of methods. Unlike previous analyses using unrooted trees and/or smaller numbers of sequences, the analysis did not support monophyly of the genus Trypanosoma, which includes the major human parasites T. cruzi (cause of Chagas' disease) and T. ...
متن کاملSingle and concomitant experimental infections by Endotrypanum spp. and Leishmania (Viannia) guyanensis (Kinetoplastida: Trypanosomatidae) in the neotropical sand fly Lutzomyia longipalpis (Diptera: Psychodidae).
Lutzomyia longipalpis females received single and mixed infections with Endotrypanum and Leishmania. Two biological parameters were analyzed: the percentage of infected females and the distribution of flagellates in the gut of the females. The principal comparisons were performed between (1) two strains of Endotrypanum, (2) cloned versus primary sample of one strain of Endotrypanum, (3) Endotry...
متن کاملLeishmania (Leishmania) martiniquensis n. sp. (Kinetoplastida: Trypanosomatidae), description of the parasite responsible for cutaneous leishmaniasis in Martinique Island (French West Indies)
The parasite responsible for autochthonous cutaneous leishmaniasis in Martinique island (French West Indies) was first isolated in 1995; its taxonomical position was established only in 2002, but it remained unnamed. In the present paper, the authors name this parasite Leishmania (Leishmania) martiniquensis Desbois, Pratlong & Dedet n. sp. and describe the type strain of this taxon, including i...
متن کاملWhite Paper: Pathogenomics of Trypanosomatid parasites - August 2007
The family Trypanosomatidae of the protistan order Kinetoplastida includes three major lineages of human pathogens – the Leishmania and the African and American trypanosomes – that each rank within the top 10 in terms of global impact. The combined impact measured by DALY of these three parasites approaches 5 million. There are currently five ‘completed’ genomes of kinetoplastids: one African t...
متن کاملLeishmania tropica (Kinetoplastida: Trypanosomatidae)--a perplexing parasite.
Leishmania tropica is one of the causative agents of cutaneous leishmaniasis (CL), a disfiguring parasitic disease that recently was found to be viscerotropic. In urban areas it is transmitted from infected individuals by the bite of phlebotomine sand flies to naïve persons (anthroponotic CL). In rural areas animals are thought to be the reservoir, but the full life cycle is still under investi...
